“In his scripts, one can recognise the attempt of the writer to understand the motif with which not only the course of mankind unfolds, but also the underlying plan that exists beneath everything.”
Panos Sakelis was born in March 1945 in Athens and grew up the eldest of three children. At ten, his family moved to Thessaloniki, where he attended Anatolia American College — an institution that placed him at the crossroads of Greek and American intellectual traditions.
From an early age he was drawn to literature, history, and the big questions of philosophy. While dreaming of becoming an actor, family guidance nudged him toward a military career. He attended the Hellenic Naval Academy and graduated as an Engineer Officer — a choice that would spend the next twenty-five years taking him around the world, and twelve of those years beneath the surface of it, on submarines.
"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice."
— William Jennings Bryan, Panos Sakelis's life motto
After leaving the Navy in the early 1990s, Sakelis joined the newly formed Greek operations of Vodafone, rising through management over two decades before retiring. Throughout both careers — naval and corporate — he continued writing theatrical plays, translating esoteric texts, and building the philosophical scaffolding that would one day support fourteen novels.
For the past decade he has worked exclusively as a novelist, publishing in both Greek and English through Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Apple Books.
His work spans magical realism, science fiction, metaphysical fantasy, and contemporary fiction — but the underlying preoccupation is constant: what is the plan beneath the plan? What moves beneath the surface of the visible world?
He is married to Erasmia Giannakopoulou and has two daughters from his first marriage, Mandy and Valia. He divides his time between Athens and his home on the slopes of Mount Parnassus in central Greece — a landscape that anyone who has read his novels will recognise immediately.
