The Personal Tone

Perception as Translation and the Only Thing Man Emits Upward

Panos Sakelis

Modern Metaphysician

The sea is not blue, nor is the sky. The forests are not green, nor the sun golden. The moon is not silver, and twilight has no pale colors. All of this is seen only by the human brain, of the creature that developed out of nothing on planet Earth. The conclusion is one:
There are no colors. There are wavelengths, and there is a brain that translates them into red or blue, without red existing anywhere outside us. The same holds for sound, which is nothing but fluctuations of air pressure, until the cochlea analyzes them by frequency and delivers them to the cortex as music or as a scream. A differently constructed brain would produce a different world out of exactly the same data, and I fear this does not concern the senses alone.
If we take it seriously, which we are obliged to do, then what we call reality is translation. It is not a lie, because translations are not lies, but they are always limited and they inevitably bear the stamp of the translator. Physics confirms this in the most prosaic way, describing matter as fields in excitation, as oscillations that have stabilized enough to resemble things. The table is solid because that is how our body needs it, not because that is how it is.
Let us then carry the experiment through to its end. If there existed an entity without eyes, without ears, without skin, capable of grasping only frequencies, what would it perceive looking in this direction? Not human beings, not cities, not history. The closest image I can form is that of a multiform pulsating whole, of a vast surface vibrating at innumerable intensities at once, where nothing has an outline and everything has tone.
Here is born the question that occupies me, and it is the only one that will occupy me in these pages. Within such a whole, where exactly is the differentiation owed to the action of a human being? If we remove the faces, the names, the works, and the buildings, everything, that is, that exists only because a human brain translates it, what remains of an entire life that is visible at that level?
The answer cannot be influence in the mechanical sense, because there is no mechanics there. The magnetic lines of one nucleus never intersect the lines of another, one field does not violate its neighbor, it rearranges itself together with it. Whatever occurs between two vibrating systems does not occur through collision, it occurs through resonance.
And resonance has a rule that deserves attention. Two strings tuned to the same frequency do not need to touch, it is enough for one to sound and the second begins to vibrate on its own, without anyone coming near it. The phenomenon does not demand intensity, it demands precision. A weak vibration at the right frequency does more than a strong vibration at the wrong one, and a string that is out of tune by the slightest amount activates absolutely nothing, however loudly it is played. Engineers know this better than musicians, which is why military units are ordered to break step when they cross a bridge. They do not fear the weight, because the structure can bear the weight. They fear the frequency, because a rhythm that coincides with the natural frequency of the material can do what tons of load cannot.
This changes the entire scale of the question. Measured by the magnitudes of the universe, the action of one human being is negligible, and those who insist on measuring it that way always arrive at the same conclusion, that nothing matters. If, however, the criterion is not intensity but precision, then the conclusion collapses. An entire life can be a small vibration that activates its harmonic on a level it never touches and will never see.
Might this, in the end, be creation? Not construction, not a design executed by some craftsman upon inert material, but a chain of resonances, where each level sets the next oscillating because it found the exact frequency corresponding to it. The One did not construct the world, It expressed Itself, and each degree of that expression produced the next in exactly the same way. If this image is correct, then human life does not add matter to creation, it adds tone.
And here things become personal. I have insisted that the I AM is not biography, it is not achievements, it is not accumulated knowledge. I can now formulate it with greater precision. The I AM is the personal tone, the unique frequency produced by the total friction of an existence with the world, by all that it endured, all that it refused, all that it loved, and all that it did not betray. It is not information that is transferred, it is a vibration that has been cleaned enough to be able to set something higher than itself oscillating.
This is also the reason the Divine Spark does not go out with the brain. The brain is the translator, and translators wear out. The tone, however, is not stored in synapses, it is produced by the one who used them, and it returns to the Spiritual Collective as the only thing that Collective could not have produced on its own, the exact taste of what it means to be a separate, bounded being within density.
What remains is the hardest thing, which is also the most practical. How is a tone tuned? Not with declarations, not with convictions, not with the repetition of phrases that sound spiritual. The tone is tuned by the coincidence between what you say and what you are, and it goes out of tune with every distance between the two. That distance is not a moral error, it is an acoustic one. It produces noise, and noise has the property of covering everything without setting anything in resonance.
Let us then name the elements that produce it, because as long as they remain nameless they are not expelled. They are the opinions we adopted without ever examining them, because our circle held them and the cost of disagreement was greater than the cost of agreement. They are the roles we accepted because they suited us, the serious one, the tolerant one, the strong one of the family, the person who never tires. They are the virtues we display without having paid for them with anything, and it is above all the ambition to appear as what one is not, which is not merely dishonest, it is functionally destructive.
The problem with these elements is not that they are false in the moral sense of the term. It is that each one of them vibrates at the frequency of the person from whom we borrowed it. A personality made of borrowed parts is a set of frequencies without a common fundamental frequency, and acoustics knows very well what such a set produces. It does not produce a chord, it produces noise. In the worst cases it produces something even more disturbing, destructive interference, where two waves in opposite phase cancel each other out and leave silence behind them. The person who carries within himself two conflicting identities is not double, he is soundless.
Here lies the real difficulty, because we do not hear our own noise. Neuroscience describes it as habituation, the brain ceases to register a stimulus that remains constant, which is why we do not feel our clothes and do not hear the refrigerator except at the moment it stops. Whatever has accompanied us since childhood becomes invisible precisely because it was never absent. So borrowed opinions do not appear borrowed to us, they appear obvious, and roles do not appear to us as roles, they appear as character. The only way to hear what is never interrupted is to interrupt it, and this is why every serious tradition asked at some point for withdrawal, silence, an interruption of the supply.
The criterion of expulsion is therefore not moral, and whoever makes it moral is simply changing masks. The question is not whether an element is good or bad, it is whether it belongs to you. A hard piece of yourself that you earned through friction vibrates cleanly and can be tamed, whereas a politeness you wear in order to be liked produces noise, however well it suits you. The flawless outward image guarantees absolutely nothing, because crystallization does not recognize manners, it recognizes origin. This is why the guardian of the gate, as I described him elsewhere, never examines the words. He has no reason to examine them, he hears the frequency that utters them.
This expulsion has a price and I am obliged to state it plainly, because those who pass over it in silence are selling consolation. Every element that departs, someone will ask to have back. The people around us have been tuned to our noise and consider it our face, so the clean vibration will at first be heard as coldness, as rudeness, as a change for the worse. There is no way for anyone to avoid this, there is only a way to endure it, and you endure it when you understand that the alternative is not harmony with others, it is a lifelong emission at a frequency that does not belong to you.
There is no technique for this, and whoever sells a technique is selling noise. There is only the daily, tedious, uncompromising work of subtraction, which adds nothing and therefore satisfies no one. Whatever remains when it is finished vibrates cleanly. And only that vibrates cleanly.
The world we see is translation. The world we produce is sound. And the only thing that passes from the one to the other is how correctly we are tuned.

"They do not hear you by what you say, they hear you by the frequency you have become."
